Windows 10 Support Ending in 30 Days

Overview:

This is to inform you that Microsoft has officially announced the end of support for Windows 10 (version 22H2) on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, or technical support for these versions. This also applies to Windows 10 2015 LTSB and IoT Enterprise LTSB 2015.

Key Implications

  • End of Support Date: October 14, 2025
  • Impact: No more monthly security or preview updates after this date.
  • Security Risks: Devices running unsupported versions of Windows 10 will be vulnerable to new security threats.
  •

Recommended Actions

We advise taking the following steps immediately to ensure business continuity, security, and compliance:

  1. Identify all Windows 10 assets
  • Identify all machines, virtual or physical, running Windows 10 version 22H2 or affected LTSB editions. Keep track of associated applications and dependencies.
  •
  1. Plan for migration or upgrade
  • Upgrade eligible systems to Windows 11 where hardware and compatibility allow.
  • Consider Windows 365 or other cloud PC solutions if you prefer cloud-based desktops.
  • For devices that can’t be upgraded, explore enrolling in Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This is available to enterprise customers (paid per device), or for home users via Microsoft Rewards / cloud backup sync under certain conditions.
  •
  1. Test compatibility
  • Ensure that business-critical software, drivers, and custom configurations will function correctly under Windows 11 (or whichever upgrade path is chosen).
  • Run pilot migrations before rolling out at scale.
  •
  1. Backup Your Data:
  • Ensure all important files are backed up before upgrading or making any changes. Consider using OneDrive or an external storage device to safeguard your data.
  1. Remain compliant
  • Ensure systems adhere to security policies (e.g., antivirus, configuration, patch management).
  • Review any regulatory or contractual obligations that require supported OS versions.
  1. Communicate to stakeholders
  • Notify internal teams (IT, security, operations) of the timeline and ensure they are prepared. Provide training or updates needed if user interfaces or workflows change.
  •

Risk of Inaction

Failure to act by the October 14 deadline may lead to:

  • Exposure to unpatched vulnerabilities and zero-day attacks.
  • Increased risk of malware, ransomware, data breaches.
  • Non-compliance with regulatory, contractual, or industry standards.
  • Software vendor support issues (many vendors require supported OS to provide updates or support).
